Free Concert from a floating Symphony Tonight (UPDATED)

By Chris | July 6, 2009 |

Yes - You heard that correctly. Come down to Dieppe Gardens on the waterfront (@ Ferry Street) and catch a free concert from the American Wind Symphony Orchestra performing aboard the Point Counterpoint II; a merry band of international students plying the Great Lakes in this spaceship-style craft for your listening enjoyment. Word on the street is that the concert starts at 7:30 tonight and you will be able to tour the boat (supposedly a floating music-arts museum!) tomorrow. Andrew Foot (check out Internationalmetropolis.com for the event poster) and I were riding home after the radio show today along the waterfront, and this wacky looking thing definitely caught our attention, I`ve got to tell ya!

UPDATE

It was a fantastic turnout this evening for the American Wind Symphony Orchestra.  Who’da thunk that a boat could sound so good!  A few hundred people enjoyed the sights and sounds in Dieppe Gardens.  Darren over at Photo404 took some MUCH better photos, but here’s a couple from my crappy camera phone to whet your whistle…

First glance, I thought this was a Titanic re-enactment group!

From where you shot, I must of walked right by you on my way out. I got a nice seat on the bench in front since I was early. Thanks for the link back to my site. There’s video there too, but youtube is doing some maintenance tonight so it might not work for a bit.
