Tomorrow’s DRIC media circus

By Mark | April 30, 2008 |

I guess the construction associations didnt’ get the mayor and councils memo’s to oppose DRIC from the following email. I’m thinking our MPP’s and their allies are about to “school” the mayor in politics. Too bad a compromise couldn’t be worked out behind the scenes.

I understand how our representatives must feel. Kind of how I felt Monday night when it my issue had to come to council for the sole reason no one would meet previously, ruling out mediation and compromise as an option

Subject: DRIC Project Announcement

THE HCA REQUESTS YOUR SUPPORT

On Thursday, May 1st at 10:30 a.m. at the Holiday Inn Select on Huron Church Road, the DRIC Project Team will be holding a press conference to announce their “final” border crossing route recommendations.

We encourage you to show support for this event by attending with as many staff, workers and heavy equipment as you can spare.

We have secured access to the vacant field at the south side of the Holiday Inn Select with access off Ambassador Drive. We encourage ALL member companies to begin assembling at this location as early at 8:30 a.m. so we will be assembled well in advance of media and dignitary arrivals.

We encourage all in attendance to wear safety vests if you have them (for those that do not, the HCA, has 50 on a first come, first serve basis), and/or hard hats.

There will be coffee, hot chocolate and donuts provided.

This industry has been waiting a long time for this GOOD NEWS, let’s show the DRIC Project Team how anxious we are to get at it!

Unfortunately, Mark, our municipal administration is the model of hypocracy at times. As you alluded to, the residents and business owners downtown were exposed to the same kind of treatment from our municipal officials as those same municipal officals were complaining about their treatment by Dwight, Sandra and the rest of Dalton’s Gang.

It’s kind of hard to feel any sympathy sometimes when they do the same to us on a much more regular basis. One would hope that they come to understand the feeling a little better after instances like this.

    Doubtful, though.

Well geez, look at who it is! The construction industry is just chomping at the bit to get some new business, what with the Casino expansion winding down and the bulk of the 401 expansion complete.

They’ll take anything they can get that will fill their pocketbooks, who cares what the long term ramifications of the actual projects they build are.

Anything is better than nothing when you have a mortgage to pay and children to feed. It’s time to move forward and build a damn parkway.
The comparison between DRIC and Greenlink are almost similar but when parties cannot even meet to negotiate any type of arrangement, it shows dysfunction.
We need jobs to push the economy forward and we need the road to be built.
    Enough already.
ps. I’d be chomping too if there was a job to be filled and I needed it!
