DOWNTOWN WINDSOR FARMERS’ MARKET OPENS JUNE 12

Over 30 Vendors to showcase “Local” this Weekend

The Downtown Windsor Farmers’ Market opens its second season this weekend with more than 30 local vendors celebrating the best of Windsor and Essex County with fresh, local produce, area artisans and entrepreneurs, baked goods and prepared foods, and live entertainment.

The market’s grand opening on June 12th starts at 8am with “Windsor Blooms”, a theme that includes garden-related demonstrations and local perennial plants.  The day will also include draws, live entertainment and more.

Market goers will be happy to see many familiar faces with returning vendors like Bradley’s Potatoes, C’Est Bon Nuts, Koehn’s Farm Market, The Fruit Wagon, Our Farm Organics, Specialty Bakery, Perry Noia the Clown and others.  New additions this year include meat, fish, gluten-free baked goods, pony rides and unique entrepreneurs.

The market’s focus is fresh, local and seasonal and organizers hope that the community will use the space as a gathering place.  “We have prepared food vendors so you can get breakfast or lunch, sit down with a drink and enjoy the entertainers,” says entertainment coordinator, JoAnn Sabourin.  Along with the energetic atmosphere, shopping at the Downtown Farmers’ Market has numerous benefits, “Supporting fresh and local is good for health, community and economy.”

“It was great to see so many families visit Downtown Windsor to support the market last year,” says vendor coordinator Tristan Fehrenbach. “What impressed me the most was how the vendors got to know people by name. That’s one of the things that make the experience so unique.”

The Downtown Windsor Farmers’ Market hopes that more residents (and vendors) will make it a part of their Saturday morning routine this season.

About the Market

this is gonna be one sweet summer! we’ve got at least 4 farmers markets happening in the region. hopefully everyone finds the time to support them and ensure that they are here for the long haul.

Unfortunately, it’s looking like rain for opening day. You’ll still see us there, though!

I am looking forward to this season as well. I find I eat better when the market was open, though I spend more. It is well worth it as the vegetables and fruit are much more flavourful and local.

Hopefully the four markets don’t feed off of each other resulting in all closing down. But I have a good belief that this region will support all four.

I want to clarify that by spending more I mean I am buying much more NOT that it is more expensive. Heck I even have meatless meals about 2 times a week.

    Bring on the Market season!!

We spend ‘more’ too - but find that we are able to crank more meals out of the fresh ingredients we buy at the farmers’ market. So we in turn spend much ‘less’ on the processed/prepared meals we buy all winter from the major grocery stores. It’s good value in the end.
