Development/Tourism commission moving to Suburbs
Call it speculation. Call it “reading between the lines. It is what it is - an assumption that we all know too well will most likely come true
From today’s Windsor Star;
Gaudet (CEO for the WindsorEssex Economic Development Corporation) said he’s hopeful they can find a location that works for both agencies.
“It’s going to be hard to keep everybody happy…. We’re trying to respect what our clients’ needs, visibility and PARKING.
He wouldn’t reveal details of the three proposed locations, but said at least one would involve the construction of a new building. Until a location is selected, it remains uncertain when the agencies will move into new headquarters.
When the emphasis is placed on parking, you know that path leads to the ‘burbs. The best that we can hope for now is that when these organizations move to, say - LaSalle, that they buy a big van and pretend it’s a bus.
At least then we can move towards some perverted form of regional transit.
Just a bunch of agencies that waste taxpayers money. Looking for land or a building? A real estate agent will find you something.
And I’ve never bought into the idea of a tourism agency. Let the local hotels and attraction operators fund and run a tourism agency.
Enough is enough.
Parking? What a joke! Why is it every time soemone or agency want so head for the ‘burbs they bring up this boogey-man?
Why don’t they just say they are too lazy to walk approx. 1 block to their agency from where they park now? That is the real reason because enough studies have shown that their is ample parking downtown.
The real reason which I will state again is we are too damned lazy as a people. N. America makes my head hurt sometimes.
As for regional transportation….never going to happen unless the ego’s of Tecumseh (ie: McNamara) doesn’t come down a little. Nice to see that they are allowed to intrude into Windsor but we can’t into Tecumseh.
Thanks OMB! I really believe the OMB is just another gov’t body that pushes for more construction jobs via suburban sprawl. I mean if we really wanted to be a green province (not the fake bs McGuinty sells us now) we would tackle the monster called suburban sprawl.
Why not move into the soon to be vacant Ontario Tourist Information Building on Huron Church Road?
Parking, visibility, access to lots of traffic? Make the best of a bad provincial decision?
