Are suburb haters elitist?

By Chris | March 18, 2011 |

That is the question posed in this Globe and Mail video by Joel Kotkin, author of The Next Hundred Million, America in 2050.

The dude’s a little batty, arguing that the urban/sub-urban ”decision” will be a personal lifestyle choice as opposed to an economic one threatening every municipalities infrastructure budget.

What does Kotkin view as the saving grace of the suburbs?  Telecommuting!

Nutbar.

This is an example of an individual “sleepwalking through life” (to use my favourite J. H. Kunstler quote) and ignoring the inevitable, yet the Globe and Mail consider him a “Leading Thinker”?!?

See/hear his other words of “wisdom” here (make the suburbs work), here (the suburbs are the future) and here (the suburbs are the engines of innovation)
