Ottawa Street Sidewalk Shame
Our readers sure do love their sidewalks, don’t they?
I just got these cell-photos from reader “‘Majority Control” (not his/her real name, but for some reason people in this city fear reprisal for speaking out) Thanks for sending them in, MC. Especially the Daisy Mart photos which I have been meaning to take. You’ve just saved me a trip! I see the multitude of people walking on Ottawa street had to carve a path through them on their own. Shame on you, Daisy Mart!
Folks, just letting the pedestrian traffic trample down the snow is not the same as shovelling it. MC assured me that although the pictures don’t look too bad, these sidewalks were very difficult to walk on and s/he is an abled-body adult! Let’s have some consideration for the less-abled, shall we?
Keep sending those pics in, folks. Maybe we can shame some of these owners and the city into actually doing something to promote equity in mobility for ALL citizens of Windsor!

I think it’s funny to see the last picture where not one of those houses has shoveled their walk. I too find it difficult on some of these paths, especially when walking the dog.
Daisy Mart… alternate brand, owned by Macs. No surprise.
i was going to walk down wyandotte to the meeting last night, but the sidewalks were a mess too, so i took the bus. walked home down riverside though and it wasn’t so bad. except for the bike lanes.
Provincial law requires municipalities to maintain all sidewalks. They can pass bylaws like Toronto’s requiring homeowners to clean snow from adjacent sidewalks. But courts have ruled that if someone slips and falls, municipalities are liable. (Homeowners could become responsible if they’ve blocked the sidewalk).
