Handful of activities…

Olde Sandwich Post Office

Howdy, all!  Firstly, I wanted to say thanks for your patience in our posting schedules as of late.  We seem to be in a hectic time of the year and I, for one, am feeling the repurcussions of my procrastinations.  I just wanted to let you know that we’re not “slipping”, we’re just experiencing that routine-busting factor known as “life”.

Cool.  That’s off my chest.

A community in peril needs your help this weekend.  The Olde Sandwich Towne Post Office is at risk!  After 100+ years of postal service in the oldest functioning heritage building in Ontario, it seems that the powers that be are choosing to close the ol’ girl down.  Many will remember the uproar when the bank closed at that same intersection (Sandich/Mill) leaving area residents with no financial institution, so I’m sure you could imagine how it feels to have yet another one of your instittions targeted for closure.

This is the only retail post office in the community offering access to universal, affordable and secure communications benefitting all residents.  Plus, look at that building!  We cannot even think to leave a building like that unoccupied and “surplus” to the neighbourhood.  We all know where that leads…

This Saturday, join residents, and local/national dignitaries for the “Hands Off Our Public Post Office!” Day of Action.  It starts immediately following the Santa Claus parade at approximately 7:30 pm in front of the Post Office (3201 Sandwich St)  Share in some hot cocoa and cookies supporting local businesses and help raise awareness that the oldest continuously settled community west of Montreal is determined to stay intact!

Still have a long list of people that you need to suck up to this holiday season?  Are they the alt-minded MadeIn Windsor Showfolks who love the thought of supporting our local arts and business professionals?

From their Facebook page

Just in time for the holidays, come celebrate local talent at the 4th semi-annual Made in Windsor Arts & Craft fair. Nearly 25 vendors will be selling handmade jewelry, accessories, handbags, clothing (reconstructed and new), photography, art, wood-turned items, plush toys, soaps, knitted goods, pottery, Christmas ornaments, and much more! Admission is free.
Made in Windsor has become a much anticipated showcase for local artisans. Come in from the cold and enjoy a hot drink while shopping for unique items that you won’t find anywhere else.
Partial proceeds from this event will benefit Rafiki Kenya, a local grassroots organization raising money for schools in rural Kenya. More information on this organization can be found at www.rafikikenya.org.

Still have cash left burning a hole in your wallet that you want to get rid of? Well, since I’ve already bought the painting that I had my eyes on, it should be safe to send you over to Milk Coffee Bar (68 University Ave W. running until Wed, December 31) to check out Stephen Gibb’s Giant December Art Dump.  There’s tons of great work still left, and Steve no longer wants to store it so he is offering everything for $100 or less!  I suggest you make it in before it’s all gone!  If you’re on Facebook, you can check out a lot of his work here.
