Couple of blog posts worthy of a read

By Mark | January 19, 2009 |

Chris Schnurr’s response to Percy Hatfield was definitely worth a read, even if it did start off with an unnecessary overly defensive statement on bloggers. (couldn’t bring myself give Chris a plug for a well written commentary without some sort of jab :) http://chrisschnurr.wordpress.com/2009/01/16/memo-to-percy-its-your-job/

Hopefully Percy will take the criticism constructively and won’t just use the council position as Windsor’s senate home for retiree’s and rubber stampers of the status quo. Maybe even an apology to cyclist would be in line

But my prize for best reprint goes to mayor of monmouth for that amazing Mitch Album article

Maybe Percy is jealous of Alan, because looking at Percy, you know he hasn’t been near a bike in what twenty years or so! Hatfield didn’t really address the dismal “D” that Windsor got for Freedom of Information requests but deflected the true hypocrisy of an antiquated document cataloquing system and the failure of an antiquated admininstration to keep their clay tablets in order.

Percy will have to wait for the next round of Senate appointees, so I guess he is going to run in the next election and double dip again, if elected. He can’t be running on his record! Eh!

Yes, I read Mitch Album’s article, it is a real heart tugger and should be published internationally in all newspapers. That is one piece of writing and heart!

You may want to take a look at this reaction piece to Mitch Albom’s article. It presents a different take on the city from a younger generation that is claiming the city as its own. You can cut and paste this link.

The Albom article and the response captured the two sides to every person in this area. We are hard nosed, we are blue collar, we are tough, yet we love creativity, we love dreams, we love art and we love coming home. This area created some of the greatest music and some of the most revolutionary music of all time.

Mitch Albom is a fantastic writer and that article really garnered a massive emotional response from me personally when I read it. I understand what he means and where he is coming from, because I come from a blue collar background, as many of us do here.

The response article reaffirmed what I personally believe, that the youth will reclaim what was once something else and transform it into something new. This rebirth will center around local colleges and universities, as they always have, and it will only get better as time goes by. I am an optimist to the core, sometimes to fault, but I know my history, and I know that we need a downturn to rise again.
