Canada’s Best Live Music Club in Windsor!

By Chris | February 4, 2009 |

Well, it can be!

SEARCHLIGHT! What is the Best Live Music Club in Canada?

It’s time to officially launch the latest edition of Searchlight! This is CBC Radio 3’s contest that shines a light on the very best that Canada has to offer musically. Last time, they sought out the Best Independent Record Store in Canada. This Searchlight, they’re seeking out the Best Live Music Club in Canada!

And Windsor’s own Phog Lounge made the cut!

WHAT IS THE BEST LIVE MUSIC CLUB IN CANADA?

Yesterday, CBC announced the preliminary 50-venue-long-list of every eligible venue you’ve nominated. At that time, they opened up the list to the voting public. A week later (Feb 10), they’ll whittle it down to a Top 20. A week after than (Feb 17), Top 10. Then the Top 5, and finally, according to your votes, the Searchlight winner of the Best Live Music Club in Canada will be crowned on Wednesday February 25, 2009.

This is where YOU come in.

WE can get Phog the coveted title of Best Live Music Club In CANADA, as simply as voting once per day at CBCRadio3’s website.  Why, you may ask, would you care about this?  Aside from the fact that Phog Lounge is THE best place in the city for live original acts, they are also one of the most supportive to the nurturing of Windsor’s creative class.  Just look at their recent “Teching Tech To Creatives” and partnering with ScaleDown and International Metropolis to host Spacing magazines Psychogeographic Walk.  All this on top of regular gallery space for local emerging artists, this place must be recognised for the value they bring this city.

In the words of co-proprietor Tom Lucier..

“I just want to paint a picture of why YOU stand to benefit from voting every day.

If we win this thing, CBC Radio 3 will host a major live show here, broadcasting it all the while.  And not only that, but as The Best Live Music Venue in Canada, we could head-hunt and justify asking ANYONE to play Phog Lounge.

You, the voter would reap the benefits by facilitating our space with high-calibre bands who have never considered us before. You would win by further legitimizing Phog Lounge as a worthy, beneficial venue to
play.

So go vote daily. Please.

We could all be so proud.”

So help us get the word out.  You can vote once per day, and we’re going to need every vote we can.   Bookmark the page.  Make it your homepage to remind you to vote.   There’s a ton of perks for being named the Best, and I think Windsor and Phog Lounge deserve those perks.

Spread the word!

I voted three times today but I won’t tell you how and where! Actually it just dawned me, I should be able to vote four times a day!

Aww, come on Rat! I thought the “unsecured wireless networks in range” would work for me, to no avail.

      How’d you do it?

Once at home, once at my desk at work, again on a libraries public access internet, and possibly again on a library internet express terminal which is hooked up to a different box. And soon as I finish this, try my cell phone, although net ready, I’ve never done it.
