December 24: It’s Christmas Eve. Lighten up fer chrisakes!

By James | December 24, 2008 |

I am not a religious person.  It doesn’t stop me from celebrating Christmas.  The whole Christmas story is pretty cool.  It’s a story of hope, a miracle, a blessing.  It inspires so many to give of themselves and even in these uneasy times there are countless examples of charity.

Having kids at Christmas is a trip.  My kids have been bouncing off the walls for the past month.  This year they are a lot more aware of other people’s situations.  They get it, that there are people that are in tough.  They went shopping with their youth group for a family this year.  They were really concerned that the eight year old boy on the list asked for pyjamas.  “That’s all he wanted” they told us, “just pyjamas.”

You don’t need to believe in Jesus to celebrate this season.  Take some time to be thankful for what you have, your family, your friends and share a meal, raise a glass, sing a song, whatever - with the people you love.

This time we live in is scary.

Take some time to enjoy life.

Merry Christmas everyone.

Thanks for the post. I’m not religious either but celebrate the holidays (Easter, Christmas, etc.) as times to be thankful for everything that I have and to spend time with my family and friends. I think that what your child’s youth group did was great and yes, it is sad when you read the lists and the child’s request is for things like underwear or gloves.

Maybe everyone should go out and do one good deed today in celebration. After all, we’re on here so we can afford a computer and internet access. :)

Thanks to everyone here for making my hopes for our city a lot brighter! I have many things to be thankful for this year, and many things to look forward to next year. This community we are collectively building is one of the brightest lights we have, and I am very happy to be able to play a part.

Thanks to everyone and have a great holiday season!

    Pax Vobiscum.

And I agree with Chris that Scaledown.ca is a bright star in this city in a very dark time.

    Merry Christmas to everyone!
